It’s a feeling that filters to the top of the frame, where fans hover at the edge of the stadium, hoping to catch a glimpse of the action. A celebratory pitch invasion would soon be under way when Geoff Hurst scored the final goal of England’s winning match, causing the BBC commentator Kenneth Wolstenholme to proclaim: “Some people are on the pitch. They think it’s all over … It is now!”
