About Chris Thomond
Chris Thomond was born in Manchester and began work as a trainee photographer for the Wiltshire Times, later moving to Birmingham as chief photographer and deputy picture editor for the Daily News. Chris had read the Guardian since he was a boy and it was a life-long ambition to contribute to the title. His first photograph published in the paper in 1990 was the start of a long and rewarding relationship. A year later he moved back to Manchester to take up a full time position for the Guardian covering the north of England with a style and flourish that has helped define our journalism for over 25 years.
