Don McPhee

About Don McPhee

Don McPhee (1945-2007) joined the Guardian's Manchester office in 1971 after training at the Eastern Daily Press in Norwich and working with John Pick's agency in York. He was soon joined at the Guardian by Denis Thorpe and together they formed a small but very special team documenting northern Britain. McPhee’s portfolio encompasses virtually every subject, but he was especially interested in politics and trade union affairs. In 2001 he was awarded an honorary MA from Manchester Metropolitan University; he was also a fellow of the Royal Photographic Society. His photographs are held by the GNM Archive.
